Amy Austin’s leadership of theatreWashington reflects her combined passions of theatre, community, and her favorite place, Washington, DC. She is the Publisher Emeritus of Washington City Paper, an influential and award-winning local alternative news media company, known for its arts journalism, and where she produced several events, including the Crafty Bastard Arts and Crafts Festival, one of DC’s most popular festivals drawing as many as 20,000 people to shop for one-of-a-kind items. As Board Chair for The Theatre Lab, she helped the organization find a permanent space downtown, establishing it as the largest school in Washington, DC for theatrical arts training for professionals, students, and marginalized communities. She enjoys continuing to make connections across organizations and disciplines to encourage ways to make the city a better place.
